Vitrine

Showing a rare book. Making room to care for it.
Vitrine is a tall display-case study for a rare book, developed around the setting of the BnF’s Galerie Mazarin. It brings together visitor viewing, access to the book and maintenance of equipment beneath it.
Opening around the book
Glass-bearing sections move outwards on linear guides. This creates access around the central book support. The opening storyboard explains the movement before the detailed drawings develop the parts that support it.
Resolving the moving parts
The design dossier works through frames, guides, support arms, glazing retention and seals. Assembly drawings and sections show how the parts meet. The outcome is a detailed construction proposal.
Reaching the equipment
The pedestal has a separate maintenance sequence for the humidity-control equipment. This allows the design to address two different tasks: handling the book and servicing the case.
