From a drawn curve to a full-size metal object.

Marche-pied is a compact metal step-stool with a high platform, a lower step and a bent tubular structure. The project follows the form from sketchbook studies through full-size layout and workshop fabrication.

Finding the outline

The sketches explore how a bent frame can support two levels. Changes to the outline and proportions shape the relationship between the upper platform, the lower step and the structure beneath them.

Drawing at full size, then forming

The workshop sequence moves from measuring and laying out curves to forming metal tube. Working at full size connects the drawn geometry to the built object. The final photograph presents its scale through a seated pose.
